Diana Diary Trip To Spain

Diana

I had been very excited to go on this trip to Spain for a long time. I waited a whole year just to visit a place for only eight days and it was the most amazing trip and place, I have ever been to in my life.
On the first day, we took an eight hour flight to Paris. Once we got to the Paris Airport, we had about three hours until our two hour flight to Madrid. Once we got to Madrid, the very first place we went to see was Madrid’s bullfighting ring. They still had bullfighting in Spain, but it wasn’t as popular as it used to be. Now it is more for tourists to be entertained rather than the locals.
On the second day, we visited the Royal Palace of Madrid. It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. Each room was decorated differently but all of them had enormous hanging chandeliers coming from the ceiling. Some rooms were covered in gold, others teal and another was decorated in an oriental style. It was interesting to see how the royalty lived and what they woke up to every morning. After we finished our tour of the Royal Palace, we went to another city called Toledo. This was probably one of my favourite cities to visit because it felt like you knew what it was like to live in Spain back then. There, we visited the Toledo Cathedral which was breathtaking. All around you were hand carved sculptures, huge columns, monuments, crypts, paintings and carved sculptures within the walls of the cathedral. You could tell that a lot of time and money was spent on this religious building because of the effort put in to creating it. That day we also visited the Santa Maria La Blanca Synagogue which was very interesting. The entire synagogue had Muslim, Catholic and Jewish influences. It was a mixture of all three.
On the third day, we went to the city Granada. On the drive there, all we saw were fields and fields of olive trees. This was another amazing city because we saw the Alhambra Palaces and Generalife Gardens which were influenced by the Moslem Moors (Muslims). The entire palace was engraved with passages from the Qur’an and the walls seemed as if someone had covered it in lace. Everything seemed kind of peaceful and calm because there was so much greenery.
On the fourth day, we went to Costa del Sol. Since the beginning of the trip, every single day rained. It wasn’t until we arrived in Costa del Sol that we finally saw sun. It was like a resort because we were surrounded by heat and hotels. When we walked outside to the balcony of our hotel room, the first thing we saw was the Mediterranean Sea. That day we walked along the beach and splashed in the water until we went shopping for the rest of the day! It was very relaxing.
On the fifth day, we went to Morocco, Africa. It was one of the best parts of the trip because it was so different from Spain. I thought that it might have been similar because it was only an hour boat ride away, but it wasn’t. It reminded me of the stories my parents told me of Viet Nam when they went back to visit. I had never been to Viet Nam but I suspected that it might have been a little bit like Morocco. There were people selling random things like jewelry, everywhere and they insisted that you buy something. The buildings were very narrow with people sitting on the ground selling vegetables, fruit, fish and meat. It was a very cultural filled day.
On the sixth day, we went to Seville. We saw the Seville Cathedral which was very beautiful inside but what was most exciting about this day was the Flamenco dancing. Flamenco is a type of Spanish dance and music. Every movement is very passionate and percussive, like tap dancing if it were mixed with salsa. The dresses and suits that the dancers wore were breathtaking. Many had different patterns and colours but it was the way their body moved with the music, costumes and light that made everything come alive. It was a very eventful evening.
On the seventh day, we spent it in Cordoba. The streets were very narrow but it was very much a touristy city. Although the city is very old, many of the shops were there for tourists rather than for the locals. It was still a very fun day because we got to walk around by ourselves as we shopped.
On the eighth day, we drove back to Madrid and traveled back home.
It was a very good trip that I will remember for the rest of my life. It was the most wonderful experience and adventure that I have ever been on and I am so glad that I got the chance to take this trip. I recommend anybody to go to Spain because it is a beautiful country to see.
